Tom McGrath is an award-winning journalist and author. His latest book, Triumph of the Yuppies: America, the Eighties, and the Creation of an Unequal Nation, was published by Grand Central Publishing in June 2024. The book is an Amazon Editors’ Pick and Number One new release.
Triumph of the Yuppies — the first-ever history of 1980s Yuppies and a cultural history of that influential decade — has received universal acclaim from the New York Times, Bloomberg, Politico, Boston Globe, New York Post and numerous other publications. In starred reviews, Publisher’s Weekly proclaimed the book “beguiling” while Kirkus called it “insightful and immensely entertaining.”
McGrath is also the author of the newsletter Common Good, which explores issues related to politics, culture and the economy.
McGrath was previously the editor of Philadelphia magazine, as well as chief content officer of the magazine’s parent company, Metro Corp. (which also publishes Boston magazine). He continues to write for both publications, as well as several others, including Politico. In 2022 he was named Writer of the Year at the National City & Regional Magazine Awards.
