Brave Hearts: Parenting our Adopted Children
https://womencarecounseling.com/event/trans-parenting-boldly-loving-affirming-and-protecting-our-gender-diverse-kids-2/
Parenting an adopted child means parenting a child with a traumatic history, a child whose brain and body adapted to a life of abandonment, loss, neglect and danger. As parents of adopted children, we have faced behaviors which often frighten and confuse us, and challenge our capacity for compassion: lying, aggression, defiance, hoarding, stealing, irrational fears and phobias to name a few.
This workshop will recontextualize these behaviors through a trauma lens and explore approaches to help our children feel safe and accept our love and care. Together we will talk about the pain, angst and despair we often feel. We will also join together in celebrating our joys and victories both large and small, acknowledging the courage and vulnerability it takes to love our children with open and tender hearts. This workshop is for personal growth, is open to all, and does not earn professional CEUs.
